We try not to make the same album twice but we invite our listeners to follow us on a musical journey as we explore and experiment with instruments, style and writing approach. Each album contains many unique features that make Watchglass, Watchglass.

This one, which started out as “the jam series,” began with a deliberation on Mark’s part to write a “speed album.” Chatting over coffee one day, out of the blue he said he wanted to try and write 10 songs in one day. I quietly thought this might be next to impossible but hey, I applauded the idea anyway. Time has never been something we felt we had to labour under and I figured there was no reason he couldn’t achieve this feat with bangers among the songs to boot. A few months later, after all the songs were done and in pre-publishing, I asked him about that 10-songs-in-a-day idea and he said, “I was curious to see if I got on a roll I could write the basis for 10 songs or an album, it didn’t work out that way but it did inspire me to create an album that was minimalistic in terms of instruments/sounds used…. the approach I took was going to be loose and experimental.” From this approach were born some very new sounds for us, even including an EDM number (Very Few Words).

As for a lyric theme or approach for this album, there was no such deliberation. Thus far in my career, lyrics create a series of stories made of moments experienced personally, noticed exteriorly, or read or heard another say. I am yet to choose a theme or topic on which to write a album. Having said that, with this bunch of songs it appears that I have explored spirituality… in a pragmatic way and tried to make it an interesting part of reality….. Top songs on this theme: “Lonely Spirit Girl” and “Beautiful Dust.”
